Chant MIDI files

(well, mostly chant)

These are MIDI files of (mostly) Gregorian Chants created by Richard Lee using NoteWorthy Composer.
Obviously I've taken some interpretive freedoms. For one thing, the computer won't be singing the words--and chant without words sort of misses the point. And I don't know what it sounds like on your system because sound cards etc. differ. It may sound pretty bad, but then Gregorian chant was never meant to be hummed by a computer. Nevertheless, some people might find this useful, if perhaps they are trying to read square note neumes.

If you wonder when the Gregorian Schola performed any of these chants, you can find out here.

Not Gregorian chant, but based on chant or close to it:

O rubor sanguinis, Hildegard von Bingen
Clausula: Domino, School of Notre Dame (c. 1200)
Ubi caritas, Maurice Durufle

Not even based on chant, but nice:

Benedictus, Orlando Lassus [Trivia: What famous pop duo recorded a version of of this?]
Beatus vir, Orlando Lassus
Flow my tears, John Dowland
Stavasi il mio bel Sol, Madeline Casulana
Morir non puo il mio cuore, Madeline Casulana
Come Away, Henry Purcell
Fine Knacks for Ladies, John Dowland
Look, Mistress Mine, Francis Pilkington
Soli Deo Gloria, Unknown composer (a round heard on the beach)

For occasions when Richard Lee performed these, see the file on his early music activities.
