There are several versions of the software. Later versions (in theory) fix bugs in early versions (and sometimes introduce new ones).
New copies of Hurley have a CD-ROM containing the software.
But the most recent version of the software (4.2.20, as of this writing), the one I recommend you obtain and install, is at the programmer's web site:
http://academic.csuohio.edu/polen/
So, ideally you should click on the above link, scroll down to "LogicCoach for the Hurley text" (Don't get one for use with other logic texts) "Latest WINDOWS Version" (unless you are a Mac user, in which case ...)
Or, if you don't have your own computer, you can use the LogicCoach software on a lab computer (if it gets installed).
When you first use LogicCoach, you should click the "new" box on the upper left.
Here you will be asked to "Enter the name under which your LogicCoach records are to be kept."
Here you need to offer a name of a file and a location.
Naming the file: For the name, I'd like you to use "lastfirs" where "last" are the first four letters of your last name and "firs" are the first four letters of your first name -- unless there this is not unique (i.e., someone else in the class would have the same file name). (Leave off the quotation marks of course.) An example would be "smitjohn". Mine would be leerich (since I don't have four letters in my last name).
Locating the file: If you might be using different computers at different times to do your homework, or if you are using a computer which other people have access to (e.g. a lab computer), you should save the file on a formatted floppy in the A drive or a USB "flash drive" that you will have with you regardless of which computer you use (or on your "comp" account, as long as you can always access that).
However, if you will be doing all your work at the same computer, you may keep the file at a convenient location on the hard drive.
For every subsequnet use of the program, you should begin not with "new" but with "returning" and then highlight the file (whether on a floppy or the harddrive), e.g lastfirs, that you set up initially.
One way to do this is to copy the file to a 3.5" floppy disk and hand that to the instructor. He will return it at the next class period. (If you do this, you will need two floppy disks in addition to the disk (floppy or hard) where you have your data file stored), since after you submit one disk, you'll still have to have a disk to copy the file to for the next time).
Another way to submit the records is to e-mail the file to the instructor. Simply attach it as an e-mail to rlee@uark.edu
