Two Commandments
(for would-be knowers)
(James)

1. Believe truth

If p is true, believe p.
2. Shun error
If p is false, don't believe p.

James: "these … are two materially different laws; and by choosing between them we may end up coloring differently our whole intellectual life." (P 101a)

1 without 2: gullible
2 without 1: skeptical

An analogy (political support):

If P wins, financially support P.
If P loses, don't financially support P.
