• A. Sally hears on the local news that someone has broken into a local school and stolen some computers. She then notices that there is a computer in the room of her son, Billy. She had never seen the computer before. She questions Billy about it and Billy finally admits that the computer was stolen from the school, but it was a friend of his (he won't say who) who stole it and give it to Billy. Billy refuses Sally's request that he call the police. Sally wonders whether (morally) she should report what she knows to the authorities.
• B. Linda teaches a history course in college. She and her student Ann become good friends over the course of the spring semester. They sometimes go for coffee together after class. They've talked about personal things (boyfriend troubles and such) over e-mail and during office hours. Near the end of the semester during a discussion over coffee they talk about summer plans. Ann says that she has a ski boat and plans to enjoy skiing on the lake the summer. She says she'll call up Linda to join her. Linda says she'd really like to do that. A week or so later Linda is grading the final exams and realizes that Ann is a few points shy of an "A." While Linda hasn't adjusted any other students' grades for enthusiasm about the subject or improvement, she is tempted just to re-grade Ann's exam and add enough points to ensure that Ann gets an "A" for the course. But Linda wonders whether this would be morally wrong.
• C. Mary and David are a married couple. Lyle is good friends with them both. One evening Lyle notices David at an out-of-town restaurant with another woman (David doesn't see Lyle there) and witnesses expressions of affection (holding hands, a gentle kiss, leaving arm in arm) between them. Some days later Lyle runs into Mary at a coffee shop. Mary confides to Lyle that David has seemed distant recently and asks Lyle, "Do you have any idea of what could be going on?"
