This course addresses ethical questions about nature and the natural
environment. Is it wrong to cut down trees? If so, why? What about the treatment
of non-human animals? Is it wrong to use them for whatever purposes we wish?
Pollution. Pesticides. Global Warming. Population control. These are some of the
issues that we will address. The approach will be philosophical. As a class we
will be looking for answers to these normative ethical issues. The course is
co-taught by a professor in philosophy and one in the department of Crop, Soil, and
Environmental Science.
