How to Do Well in Philosophy
Class
A few suggestions about how to do well in a philosophy class:
- Read the material before we talk about it in
class (keep a few pages ahead) [put question marks in the margin where there are points
that are confusing].
- Come to class, pay attention, and take notes.
- Look at any relevant notes on the course website.
- After class review what went on in class to be sure you understand it.
- Re-read the selections talked about to see if they make
more sense.
- Before the next class, review the notes/reading again so
that when the teacher starts talking, you're already up to speed.
- If you have questions about the reading or material, ask them of the
teacher (office hours,
e-mail).
Notice that all this can be done even before a study guide is available.
